About the Swiss market:

The life sciences and chemical industries are very strongly represented in Switzerland and form an important pillar of the economy. The market is currently undergoing a reorientation, production is being relocated back and companies based here are increasingly investing in Switzerland as a business location. The Basel area is considered one of the most important life sciences regions in Europe. Almost two thirds of all employees in the Swiss pharmaceutical industry work in this cluster. In addition, the majority of the Swiss value chain is generated in Basel and the surrounding area. Around one third of all Swiss exports and one fifth of all Swiss imports are attributable to pharmaceutical products. The global sales of the "top ten" Swiss chemical and pharmaceutical companies totaled CHF 147 billion in 2017.
